Gift of Life Lebanon a chapter of Gift of Life International (GOLI) held its first annual gala dinner on May 16th 2016 at the O1NE Biel Beirut to celebrate its achievements in healing little hearts from low income families. CEO of Gift of Life International and Several Rotary Past District Governors came to Lebanon especially for this occasion to enjoy the celebration among 400 Rotarians and guests.
During the evening the founder and Chair of Gift of Life Lebanon Lina Shehayeb introduced the organization as the only one representing an international organization helping needy children with pediatric cardiac surgeries in Lebanon. GOLI, the mother company has helped more than 20,000 children from 72 different countries over the past 4 decades,
Chair Lina Shehayeb stated that each year, 1 in 100 babies is born with a congenital heart disease, the most common birth defect in the world. In Lebanon more than 1300 babies a year are diagnosed with heart disease (Lebanese and refugees). Half of them will need surgical intervention and the procedure is highly expensive with a minimal financial support. Gift of Life Lebanon has the privilege of partnering with the “Children Heart Center” at (AUBMC) and the Rotary Clubs of Lebanon which will enable it to save 100 lives through open heart surgery at the end of 2016, its first year of existence in Lebanon.
The event was superbly and lavishly decorated by event planner Robert HYKL and the evening was beautifully animated by Wissam Breidy, Yuri Mrakadi, Matteo& Riwa El Khodr, Miss Liban Valerie Abu Chakra, all sponsors and supporters of this cause.
During the evening Dr. Fadi Bitar; Director of Children Heart Center at AUBMC was awarded a Rotary Paul Harris pin by Gift of Life Lebanon’s team in recognition of his dedication and support to the organization. Several Rotary Clubs of Lebanon also received a special award for helping Gift of Life Lebanon save more and more children.
