One of the things I love about Lebanon is the fact that it is really like a Phoenix, it always rises from the ashes and every time faster and higher.
No matter how tough life is in this invisible spot of the world map, life still exists.
By life I mean real Life, not only taking a breath and being physically alive.
Life through the social life, through work, through entertainment, through intellectual and artistic activities etc etc.
One of the latest events Glamroz had the opportunity to attend was the “ Free Connected Minds” conference, by MCF ( May Chidiac Foundation) at Phoenicia Hotel Beirut. It was a conference that aimed at exploring a fresh set of ideas related to social media and journalism and it included to effective interactive debates on imperative concerns that impact collective thinking in addition to the development and advancement of the ever-important notion that is freedom of expression.
We thank Ms May Chidiac for the great work and this conference prepared at a high level that takes us to the international level of conferences. Organization, venue, speakers, subjects, panels, even lunch and coffee breaks were amazing.
The level of interaction between speakers and attendees was also very interesting.
The conference was sponsored by HE minister Boutros Harb, and speakers included many National and international public figures known in the field of social media, journalism or national security. We mention mainly the astronaut Anousheh Ansari, the journalist Ali jabber, and Major Suzan Hajj Hobeiche, Chief Executive Officer at Internal Security Forces.
Ms Chidiac opened the day with a brief friendly speech accompanied by her eternal beautiful smile that even a huge explosion couldn’t blow.
Than Mr Harb that we highly respect presented a very classic speech, in the classic Arabic language. To be honest, Although I believe Mr Harb is a great politician, and one of the few good ones left, but I am sorry to say that he doesn’t fit in the telecommunication ministry. It is not the first time that we attend a conference about this ultra modern subject sponsored by him, but it very obvious that he is not enough knowledgeable about the subject. Even the way he talks is like riding a bike to fly to the moon, especially in the presence of few of the best experts in the field, mainly a real astronaut. He didn’t need to include old style politics talk in such an up-to-date subject.
I hope this will be taken as it meant to be, as a constructive critic, not as a mean attack.
Here I wonder if I will be arrested like many other Lebanese bloggers. What do you say Major Suzanne Hajj?? Did I cross the boundaries set by our government, by saying loudly and respectfully my opinion?
On the other side, major Hajj crossed the boundaries of the classic we are used to. Instead of an expected bold fat officer we expect to see, here comes a gorgeous classy lady, another proof that brain and beauty can meet in one lady. The most interesting idea Major Suzanne talked about, is to “fight” the ISIS spirit who are gaining territory on and through social media, by working on a “counter message’ way of “attack”. Which means spreading the opposite message, also through social media. Great point Major. We are ready to support you.
The person who was the center of my attention was Anousheh Ansari, the well known astronaut. Here story was published last week by Glamroz. Seeing her live and listening to her words shows us that she is impressive not only as a scientist, but more as a spiritually enlightened person. It seems like she visited the “sky” in all its dimensions, as a physical sky and as the God’s sky. She talked about her experience as an astronaut, and how it made her see the world from a different perspective: this world that we fight for and we fight in, that looks so tiny from above.
Anousheh is a very smart, wise and highly impressive person in the look a very humble and simple lady. Probably if you cross her in the street, someone would never imagine this “huge” personality. Not only a scientist, but also a philosopher and a spiritual person, who makes us feel that anyone could realize their dream, no matter how big it is. She is the modesty of the big people in history.
Once more Thank you Ms May Chidiac, and looking forward for the next event.
