What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a branch of Traditional Chinese Medecine (TCM) .TCM includes Herbal Medecine and Acupuncture.
Acupuncture is a system of healing which has been practiced in China for thousands of years.
Although acupuncture is still relatively “new” to Lebanon its integration has been a long time coming. Thousands of years ago, Chinese ancients spent whole lifetimes observing nature, discovered the secrets of healing naturally, and passed down this beautiful medicine generation to generation.
Although it is often used to relieve pain, it can also heal a wide range of illnesses. Acupuncture benefits not only the physical body but the mind and sense of well being as well.
It Is known to increase the release of natural pain killers, including endorphins and serotonin, through the pathways of the spinal cord and the brain. Acupuncture works by stimulating the nerves in the muscles and other deep organs in order to alleviate pain. Single-use thin sterile needles are inserted into specific points of the skin. Each sessions lasts between thirty to forty-five minutes.
How is Acupuncture Treatment Done?
The first three sessions should be done within a period of ten days followed by sessions once a week or once a month, depending on how the patient responds. Follow up treatments may continue for longer intervals. Results can be rapid or slow, depending on the condition or illness of the patient.
A typical session of acupuncture therapy generally includes a weekly or bi-weekly session. Most treatments consist of up to 12 sessions. Each session involves an exam, an assessment of the patients condition, insertion of needles and some self-care advice. Very thin needles are inserted into various points on the body.
You may feel a slight sharp sensation when the needles are being inserted but generally this procedure is not painful. Sometimes the needles are gently moved or stimulated with heat and moxibustion. Some patients experience a sense of being energized while others experience a feeling of being relaxed.
