We are living in an era where values are vanishing from the world. A man looks and acts like a woman, and a woman to prove she is free and independent acts like a man. Rare are the real men and women who understand and live as they should. Virility and manhood are not by beating the wife, and femininity is not by yelling and declaring homosexuality loudly in a still conservative country.
It is so important for women to have role models like Angelina Jolie and Amal Alamuddin, examples of the independent and accomplished female, who appear to have achieved success in both their professional and private lives, all while snagging the hottest men on the planet. I mean seriously, that has to be said.
Amal Alamuddin makes her entrance at the Global Summit to End Sexual Violence in Conflict on Thursday. The 36-year-old lawyer and fiancee of George Clooney was there to join the couple’s pals Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt at the four-day conference.
But what’s even better is that despite being engaged to Brad Pitt and George Clooney, respectively, is that these men are not the most impressive thing about Angelina or Amal, their professional success is.
Amal and Angelina are not defined by the men in their lives. They are beautiful, intelligent women working together to make the world a better place for other women.
Amal, who is a human rights lawyer that attended on behalf of UNICEF, was spotted taking notes during the conference that day.
“It is a myth that rape is an inevitable part of conflict,” Angelina said in her opening remarks at the conference earlier in the week. “There is nothing inevitable about it. It is a weapon of war aimed at civilians. It has nothing to do with sex – everything to do with power. It is done to torture and humiliate innocent people and often very young children.”
Have we died and gone to Wonder Woman Heaven?
Yes, we still have a long way to go to end violence against women and girls. Yes, women are still being gang-raped in India and hung on a weekly basis. Yes, more women are killed in the everywhere on the planet. But can we just take a moment to applaud Angelina and Amal?
Clooney’s Beirut-born fiancée, who attended the summit as a representative of law firm Doughty Street Chambers, looked chic in a coral dress with a pencil skirt and matching cropped jacket. She paired the look with floral, slingback, pointed-toe pumps.
Angelina is wearing Saint Laurent. Brad is wearing a Salvatore Ferragamo suit.
