Amman, Jordan – The Jordan Tourism Board offers its sincerest condolences to the families and friends of three French tourists who passed in a rock climbing accident in Wadi Rum. The three rock climbers reportedly entered the Wadi Rum Protected Area without permission and proceeded to climb the treacherously slick sandstone mountains without the presence of an experienced guide using their own equipment.

The board continues to urge that only experienced climbers attempt to tackle the steep summit of Wadi Rum, only accompanied by professional guides and even then, continue with extreme caution. Initial investigation into the incident reveals that the climbers may have been using faulty equipment. The board will continue to look into the matter with concerned officials in the Wadi Rum area to able to determine the cause of the accident and ensure that it never happens again.
