Krista is an American Lebanese teenager born and raised in USA, from parents who are born and raised in Lebanon.
We wonder why a simple story was published in CNN. The answer is simple, it is a story of millions of people, who are the first generation in a foreign country. It is mostly parents who left their home countries for education or work and who ended up staying there for multiple reasons, going from financial, to safety and sometimes simply because they married someone from the place they lived in or maybe they loved the life abroad.
Those “parents” would always have to overcome many obstacles and boundaries of course, but their children, who are born in the new culture will have a harder time to cope between the culture they live in and the culture their parents brought and kept. Those parents who will always have the nostalgia of Lebanon and the hidden dream of coming back “home” for good one day. Those unforgettable dreams of school, friends, families, summers in the mountain or on the beach.
Krista Abboud describes with lot of details the situation of all the kids born abroad mainly in the USA. Those kids who are the nieces and nephews of most of us, and who are spread all over the world, especially in Europe and USA.
